Future of Law and Innovation in the Profession
The Future of Law and Innovation in the Profession (FLIP) Commission of the Law Society of New South Wales, chaired by President Gary Ulman, is in full swing conducting the most in-depth inquiry of its kind in Australia. It was an honour for me to address a FLIP hearing recently.
From the FLIP homepage:
“The legal sector is experiencing major change. From fresh collaborations, cutting edge tech and nimbler services, to the rise
of AI, Big Data, outsourcing and unbundling, the FLIP commission is surveying the disrupted new landscape. How far do the changes reach? What are the leaders doing How will you position yourself to take advantage of these changes? The FLIP commission of inquiry aims to investigate the detail.”
My testimony may be found on YouTube here.

Dialogue on Remaking Law Firms looks forward to featuring the final FLIP report.
Bravo to President Ulman and the Law Society. It is a great service to members when the institutions of the bar consider these questions and, in particular, to look at the changes in the marketplace as an opportunity to be better serve our clients. In addition to the on-line resources listed above, you may also want to look at the work we did at the Canadian Bar Association with our Legal Futures Initiative. Our final report, issued in August 2014, can be accessed, along with our consultation document, research materials and discussions at: http://www.cba.org/CBA-Legal-Futures-Initiative/Reports . We also continue to roll out tools to help our members and present our work to a variety of audiences (for ex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1o74zvfBXA ). Looking forward to following the work of the Law Society.
